A 58-year-old woman was killed on Saturday, reportedly after being struck by a car while crossing the East Coast Demerara Public Road near Happy Acres.
Joan Williams, a mother of two, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was found on the Public Road with severe injuries.
According to a police, investigations so far have revealed that the victim was crossing the roadway and was struck down by a motor vehicle. The driver is in police custody at Sparendaam Police Station.
“Is not a dog or cat they hit down, her face was battered up and bones broken in several places, and when we visit the police station the police don’t want us to know or see who the driver was. I don’t want the police feel they could let this case slide under the carpet, because she got family and we watching every move,” one relative lamented.
