The law enforcement efforts of the police on the East Coast of Demerara were made a bit easier yesterday,
Commander Christopher Griffith receives the donation from Hack in the presence of other police officers.
thanks to a public spirited Guyanese who has a penchant for proper road safety.
Shahab Hack, Chairman of the West Demerara Road Safety Association presented a number of illuminated vests, stop signs and flashlights to Divisional Commander Christopher Griffith outside the Sparendaam Police Station.
According to Hack, who is also a member of the National Road Safety Council, many nights while going home along the East Coast Demerara Highway, he observed the police working admirably, despite the adverse conditions they have to endure.
For example he said that they operate behind unlit barriers at roadblocks; the ranks are not so visible which poses a danger to their lives.
“If we would like the police to protect our lives, which they are doing, then I think that we should reciprocate…we should all lend a helping hand to the police because we all know that the police is working under adverse conditions,” Hack said.
He called on other organisations and well meaning individuals to come forward and place their “hands on the deck” since no one agency can ensure security and road safety in a country.
Commander Griffith in accepting the donation, said that it will go a far way in enhancing road safety and crime strategy.
He added that it will ensure not only the safety of the ranks but that of motorists and other citizens as well.
“We are going community oriented policing and we are asking that all come on board …we are going for partnerships,” the Commander stated.
He said that Mr. Hack has come on board at the right time and he called on others to come on board too.
