Dear Editor,
I refer to the AFC column in October 19, 2014 Kaieteur News entitled “The myth of the PPP-C invincibility.”
Here the writers look at AFC’s success and predicted that swing voters could become the determining factor in who governs Guyana.
To illustrate their point they compared the votes cast in 2006 and 2011 with AFC participation compared to 2001 when the AFC was absent. An obvious conclusion from that comparison that was missed by their analysis is the racial voting pattern of the swing voters that supported the AFC in the 2006 and 2011 elections.
In 2006 when the AFC was led by African Guyanese Raphael Trotman, their votes came from the PNC dominated Regions 4 and 10 and not from the PPP dominated Region 5 and 6. In 2011 when the AFC was led by Indian Guyanese Khemraj Ramjattan, their votes came from Regions 5 and 6 and not from Regions 4 and 10.
In fact, the support they had gained in Regions 4 and 11 in the 2006 elections went back to the PNC (APNU) in the 2011 elections. There is no escaping the fact that when Guyanese go to the polls it’s us and them. Kingsley Harrop
