Dear Editor,
I am very anguished by the actions of Khurshid Sattaur and Bharrat Jagdeo in releasing confidential tax information about a privative citizen. This demonstrates that every citizens of Guyana tax information is now in the public domain. Sattaur and Jagdeo are above the Law, as he mentioned in his email and quote “we are in this together”.
These two individuals have all the intension, maliciously and deliberately to close the function of Kaieteur News and other operatives who oppose the corrupt Government, this is clear vendetta. These two individuals are behaving like the Italian mafia. We must adhere to the principles of democracy, transparency and freedom of the press.
He must understand this is a breach of the secrecy he swore to, and such breach should carry a severe penalty. He has violated the rights of every citizen. Both Sattaur and Jagdeo are accountable for the crime; they are a complicit and must face the consequences. Such behavior should not be tolerated.
The penalty should set a precedent for all public servants in Government, as no one is above the law. In other countries where tax and health information are held by Government authorities, to release such to anyone, carries severe penalties. Marcel Leonard New York.
