A minibus driver was on Friday placed on $200,000 bail after he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving

in connection to the accident on the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara, which claimed a pedestrian’s life on Tuesday night.
The driver, Neville Corlette, 62, of Lot 198 Prospect, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to respond to the charge.
Corlette is accused of driving in a manner dangerous to the public while piloting motor vehicle BMM3699 on September 30, at Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara, causing the death of Verating Akee.
Corlette pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant explained that about 18:45 hours on Tuesday, the minibus Corlette was driving was proceeding north on the Prospect Public Road when he struck Akee, a pedestrian who was at the time attempting to cross the road.
Grant said that Akee received injuries and was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The minibus driver was arrested and charged after the police launched an investigation into the accident.
The Chief Magistrate ordered that he reports fortnightly on Fridays at the Providence Police Station, commencing October 10. The Prosecution was ordered to file statements and the case is set to be called again at the Providence Magistrates’ Court on October 24.
