In just one year, young Superbiker Kevin Persaud has quickly emerged as one of the rising stars in the sport and come September 28 when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club stages its ‘Race of Champions’ Meet, racing fans and experts of the sport will be able to make their own assessment of this fast improving racer.

Young Superbike racer Kevin Persaud (right) poses with his 2011 Kawasaki ZX6R and father ‘Smellie’ at the Workshop yesterday.
Persaud whose father is one of the most sought after Superbike mechanics in the country, perhaps, had no other choice, but to become a racer, having seen all his life some of the best exponents of the sport seek his father ‘Smellie’ expertise to whip their machines into readiness to thrill fans at the South Dakota Circuit.
The young Persaud, who will be astride a 2011 Kawasaki ZX6R at the upcoming Meet, started his career last November, during the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in the ‘B’ Class and returned with two sixth placed finishes.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport at his father’s Workshop yesterday, Persaud said despite those results he remained confident in his ability and returned to the track this March and immediately showed admirable improvement, registering two second placed finishes and a third to crown a good Meet.
Asked whether he will be challenging the likes of Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira, Nikhil Seereeram and the others, he stated that he will not be doing so on this occasion, but is hoping to do so in the near future.
“I will be racing in the Super Stock category and some of the guys I will be going up against are Matthew Vieira, Nicholas Boodhram and a few others, but I’m confident that I can do well against them,” Persaud told this newspaper.
He reckoned Matthew Vieira will be his toughest opponent, but said he will be going all out to reverse his fortunes against him after being beaten by him in the past.
“I have lots of confidence that I will be on the podium come race day and I’m even hoping to claim the top spot ahead of my rivals,” Persaud said.
Kaieteur Sport wishes him every success in his endeavour.
