GRFU conducts Mini Tag Festival

Riding high on the success of the senior national team, the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) recently conducted a Mini Tag Festival aimed at showcasing the skills of young players who are now getting involved in the game and who attended its Annual Summer Camp and introductory Get into Rugby (GIR) Programmes.

According to a release from the Union, the Camp which is being directed by Youth Development Officers Troy Yhip and Laurie Adonis saw the participants being taught the rudiments of the game.
The release added that some 45 children both boys and girls were present at the Festival which saw them engage in Tag rugby, a non-contact aspect designed for juniors.
In a brief comment, President of the Union Peter Green recognised the sterling efforts of the Youth Development Officers and stated that from such humble beginnings the seeds of success for youth Rugby are sown with the promise of a bountiful harvest to come.
The outstanding teams received medals and trophies which were presented by Mrs. Shellon Green, wife of Union President.
Meanwhile, the GRFU wishes to acknowledge the vital input of the following persons and companies that have contributed significantly towards the success of the programmes and they include Scotia Bank, Trophy Stall, Banks DIH, Dyna’s Embroidery, Nedd’s Bakery and Royal Castle.
The GRFU’s ongoing Saturday programme continues with the youth players set to showcase their skills in upcoming U-21 and U-19 Tournament in the coming weeks.
