Bad weather blamed for plane crash at Monkey Mountain
A pilot and passenger onboard a Britten Norman Islander aircraft reportedly walked away unharmed yesterday after the plane they were travelling in crashed at an airstrip located at Monkey Mountain in Region Eight.

Information coming out of the interior location alleged that bad weather was the catalyst for the accident which saw the twin engine aircraft veering off the airstrip.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in a press release expressed that investigators were on their way to Monkey Mountain, (Potaro/Siparuni), “to determine what caused the Britten Norman Islander aircraft to run off the Monkey Mountain airstrip.”
They said that the incident occurred around 9:50 am. “The pilot, Orlando Charles, and another passenger were reportedly not injured. The twin-engine aircraft, registration 8RGGY, was damaged,” but the extent of the wreck could not be immediately determined.
The Authority said that the aircraft had left the Ogle International Airport earlier in the day and made stops at Omai and Mahdia before heading to Monkey Mountain.
The domestic airways aircraft which is owned by Ned Baksh was said to be shuttling supplies to the location at the time. It is alleged that the plane had circled the airstrip several times before landing. Shortly after setting down, it was claimed that the aircraft veered off the runway.
