An accident last month on the Demerara Harbour Bridge and involving a policeman left more than $200,000 in damages to the structure.
According to a release from the Ministry of Public Works, the policeman, David Lindo, also allegedly threw the cell phone owned by the bridge’s General Manager, Rawlston Adams, into the Demerara River, when he arrived on the scene of the vehicle accident to assess the damage.

The accident, the Ministry said, occurred on January 29 around 23:40 hrs.
Lindo is said to be attached to the police Tactical Services Unit (TSU), Eve Leary.
Adams said that the policeman’s vehicle collided with the bridge rails at Span 45 which damaged two cable trays and a diamond panel member.
“The total figure for the compromised section amounted to $233,703. Furthermore, the officer involved threw Mr. Adams’ mobile phone into the river. However, it has been replaced,” the Harbour Bridge Official said.
The police are now involved in the matter and conducting an internal investigation.
Last month, Adams in confirming the incident, said he had lost valuable information that was stored in the phone.
