A businessman has suffered major losses, along with his Chinese counterparts. They were all granted concession to operate a lumbering enterprise at Barama, a Malaysian-owned company, located in the Essequibo River some ten miles from Supenaam.
The group lost one of the company’s sawmill to fire. All of the equipment, including the chain saws were all destroyed.
The fire apparently started in the wee hours of Thursday and lasted into the evening.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. Workers were not in the vicinity when the fire occurred.
Reports state that the sawmill was rented out to a businessman, by some Asian nationals, at Barama.
Police and fire officers are yet to conduct proper investigations into the fire.
Barama executives from Georgetown, along with the current owner have visited the destroyed site.
