Race walkers are expected to turn out in their numbers tomorrow morning to pay homage to their fallen Public Relations Officer, Olga Harry, who departed this life one year ago after a brief period of illness. They will compete in the Olga Harry Memorial Race walk organized by the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) commencing from the Barama Plywood Company, Land of Canaan, ECD, up to the Soesdyke Primary School for the finish. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each of the several competing categories.
The battle for supremacy continues next weekend when the CS&TC launches a series of events to commemorate Guyana’s 44th year as a Republic. The first will also serve to commemorate the death of founder leader, Forbes Burnham and will get underway on Sunday February 16 next. This race will commence at the President’s College, Golden Grove ECD, proceed to the village’s market and back to the place of origin.
Activities continue one week later, on February 23, when race walkers convene at the Banks DIH Thirst Park venue for a 10K journey to the National Cultural Centre, Mandela and Homestretch Avenue. The walkers then travel to Linden on Monday February 24 where they will congregate at the Wismar end of the Linden Bridge, proceed along the Winifred Gaskin Highway and finish at the Bayroc Recreational Centre, Wisroc.
Prizes for all of the events have been donated by several corporate citizens and sports oriented individuals.
