Dear Editor,
This Government never ceases to amaze, and so I will not stop sharing with others the truth.
We see that the Ministry of Home Affairs is now considering the establishment of a number of one-way streets; they say to ease congestion in the city. Why citizens are being denied the opportunity to basic sensible and good governance by this government is the big question?
If the Government would only take the city seriously and be sincere, these ad hoc proposals and reinventing of the wheel would be unnecessary.
In 2001, a plan was prepared for the redevelopment of Georgetown 2001-2010 and at the risk of repeating myself, one of the proposals dealt with relieving the congestion in Georgetown. That proposal, among others, was to establish cul-de-sacs and a number of one-way streets.
Last year, after the State took no action, I wrote the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police suggesting that Bent, Durban and Norton Streets should be made one-way at certain points.
In spite of pleadings, Central Government has ignored what was a structural professional approach to this plan, so we have confusion, mayhem and ad hocism.
People must understand how much damage this callous approach to Georgetown has caused us. Hamilton Green, J.P.
