What remains of the structure
completely destroyed a two-bedroom house at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara. The blaze reportedly started shortly after 09:30hrs yesterday.
Thirty-four year-old Anita Drapaul, who is the matriarch of the home, told Kaieteur News that she was in the lower flat of the building along with the children when she heard her neighbour shouting ‘fire’. The woman said that she had just returned from the market.
“I was in the kitchen with my children sorting out the greens I bring home because I does walk and sell it through the village” Drapaul said. She said that minutes after, the alarm was raised. The woman said that they were unable to save anything from the house.
Meanwhile the woman’s husband Phillip Trotz told Kaieteur News that he was in the “back dam” and received a message that his house was on fire. The man said that this now places the family under significant burden since they have nowhere else to go.
Investigations are continuing.
