– Foul play suspected
Police are investigating the circumstances that lead to the demise of a 37-year-old mentally unstable woman, whose badly decomposed body was found floating in a trench at Company Road, Buxton, on the East Coast Demerara yesterday.
The gruesome discovery was made at around 11:00hrs by residents, who claimed there was an “unpleasant odour” in the area since Monday.
The body has been identified as that of Simone Russell, who would normally “stroll the streets” daily. No permanent address was given. Her body was found floating among debris in the muddy water. When police pulled the woman’s remains to shore, it was discovered that a rope was wrapped around her waist and feet.
The deceased was clad in a pair of short black pants and multi-coloured vest. The “Gaza Queen” tattoo on her left thigh made it easy for the residents to identify her. Russell was last seen alive on Saturday outside a Barbeque in the village.
“She does go to different people house every night. She has ah 11-year-old child, but I don’t know if the government or the child father took the child away. Her (Russell) mother is the same too. They does trip out sometimes,” a resident said.
Her sister, Shenell Headley told Kaieteur News that she was at home when a resident in the area called and informed her that her sister’s body was found floating in the trench.
“When I come I had to give the police some information. The last time I saw her was some time last week. I don’t really know much about her and her whereabouts,” Hedley said, while making her way back home after giving a brief statement to investigators.
