Albion among venues for ODI youth series
Asian teams traditionally expose their players at a very young age to International cricket and the seven-match ODI Under-19 series in Guyana between the West Indies and Bangladesh could be an ideal opportunity for the Bangladesh teenagers to stake a claim for International selection in the near future.
Today, their tour will bowl off with a practice game at Bourda against a Guyana Under-19 side without West Indies youth players Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Shemron Hetymer who are being rested for the seven-match ODI youth series which starts on Monday at Providence.
Play is scheduled to commence at 09:00hrs at the World famous Bourda Oval, one of four venues in Guyana that will host matches for the first ever series to the Caribbean by a Bangladesh youth side.
Six players from the National Under-19 team which participated in the Regional Under-19 series this year in St Kitts, skipper Shawn Pereira, Kamesh Yadram, Vishal Narayan, Steven Sankar, Herry Greene and Romario Shepherd-DeJonge are included in the squad for today’s match while Ricardo Adams has been banned for three months by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for disciplinary reasons.
Bangladesh who arrived in Guyana on Wednesday were scheduled to have practice sessions on Thursday and yesterday and both the West Indies and the visitors will be using this series as preparation for next year’s ninth Under-19 World Cup to be staged in Dubai.
In addition to the Day/Night matches at the Guyana National Stadium, Everest, Bourda and Albion in Berbice which will host the sixth youth ODI, are the venues to be used.
The Guyana squad reads: Ricardo Peters, Ryan Shun, Kamesh Yadram, Shawn Pereira, Sharaz Ramcharran, Kemol Savory, Vishal Narayan, Steven Sankar, Herry Greene, Martin Pestano-Belle, Romario Shepherd, Kemo Paul, Shailendra Shameer, Ricardo Mohamed, Shivram Persaud and Bernard Bailey.
The Manager is David Black while Adrian Amsterdam has been appointed Coach.
