The body of chain-saw operator Chandradat Hussein, 33, of Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice, was found hanging in a logging camp at Kurduni, Berbice River last Friday and police believed that he was murdered.
A Port Mortem Examination was performed on the body today Monday August 26, 2013, by Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan gave the cause of death as ligature strangulation.
Police in a press statement yesterday the police said that diligent investigations led to the arrest of a prime suspect who is in custody assisting with the investigations.
According to relatives, the man called ‘Deo’ was the eldest child of a single parent mother Narainea Chinoo called ‘Chandra’ of Lot13 Goed Bananen Land East Canje Berbice.
He worked as a chain saw operator with the Bovelle concession at Kwakwani, Berbice River. According to his mother, her son was on his second visit to the grant with his boss. The distraught woman stated that on the first trip, her son spent six weeks before returning home. He spent a few days before leaving on Sunday 18 on his second trip with his boss. The woman said that she was at home around 20:30 hours on Friday when she received a phone call from someone at Betsy Ground. The person just asked for her residence and the phone cut off. She immediately became worried and returned a call to the number.
However, she decided to go where the person lives in the next village. While going, she met the caller on the way but she was reluctant to divulge any information.
However the woman told her that her son was not feeling well and was in the hospital.
After much insisting she was told that her son had hanged himself. She eventually doubted the information that her son would commit such an act. She said her son who was a former cane harvester, worked most of his life in the interior areas at various grants and concessions. She described him as a quiet, loving and hard working person. The woman stated that she wants the police to do a proper investigation and get to the bottom of the matter. She felt that her son was murdered and his body hanged to indicate that he killed himself. The man leaves to mourn four brothers and other relatives and friends.
