It is alleged that the ex-policeman, who owns a business, had exited a restaurant and was about to enter his car when Adonis, 34, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, and another man, attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
Kaieteur News was told that Adonis grabbed the ex-cop and relieved him of a gold chain. However, the former police rank, who had a firearm, managed to shoot Adonis. Police sources said that the other robber took the chain from the injured Adonis and fled.
Adonis was admitted under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Adonis was one of six men who were charged for the high-profile $17.2 million GuySuCo payroll heist at Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara in November 2008. The charges were all dismissed.
