Football-loving fans turned out in their numbers at California Square, East Ruimveldt Thursday night to witness the intense rivalries in the Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ tournament, which continued at the popular venue in East Georgetown.

Rasville ‘A’ respectively, coming away with similar margins of victory, 3-0 over their opponents to advance to the next round.
Berlin also advanced after defeating 2011 Georgetown ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Champion Back Circle 1-0, which was the same score-line for the West Front Road versus Castillo clash that saw West Front Road advancing.
Festival City and Broad Street ‘B’ also qualified after defeating Leopold Street ‘B’ and Vryheid’s Lust Champs on penalty kicks, but it was the two final games of the night that set the venue alight with contention and keen competition on both ends of the concrete field.
Devon Millington and Dennis Edwards were the two main figures in the Sparta Boss’ lineup and certainly they did not fail to impress as they did when the team also won last week at the National Cultural Centre tarmac.
The duo combined to give their side the first goal of their contest against Turkeyen in the first minute. Known for his controlling ability on the big field, Millington exhibited such similar traits for the small goal, finding Edwards on the left side for a conversion that sent the crowd into frenzy, making it clear that they are favourites.
Jermaine Weekes missed an opportunity to put Sparta Boss in the lead three minutes later, when his penalty kick, which was awarded after a Turkeyen player defended the ball in the no-zone area, struck the left post.
However, Millington made up for that blunder with his sixth minute strike. Edwards completed his double with a clinical goal, driving the ball through the legs of the opposition. The play sparked off loud celebrations off the field before the end of the first half.
Turkeyen found it difficult to pull back the Sparta Bosses, who displayed showmanship to the delight of fans.
Like Sparta Boss, a large uproar greeted Albouystown ‘B’, who are also heavily favored to take home the $300,000 top prize.
The team took apart a hapless Rasville ‘A’ lineup. Melvon Ross emulated Edwards’ brace in the fifth and 18th minutes with Shaka Jones adding the third goal in the 13th minute to set Albouystown ‘B’ on a collision course with Sparta Boss.
Rasville ‘A’ have only themselves to blame, since they lacked coordination and communication on both the offensive and defensive sides. When Ross got his first goal, which he calmly placed through the legs of Rocky Cumberbatch, it signaled the start of Albouystown ‘B’s domination of the game.
Meanwhile, Sherwyn Cadogan’s sixth minute goal was all that was needed to guide Berlin past Back Circle, after Festival City edged Leopold Street 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks, with Andell Bailey being his team’s hero following a nil-all stalemate at the end of regulation time and 3-3 on penalty kicks.
Broad Street ‘B’ also defeated Vryheid Lust Champs 3-1 on penalty kicks, while Wendell Pedro’s 11th minute goal separated West Front Road from Castillo. The action continues tonight at Punt Trench and School Street, Albouystown.
