A fire of so far unknown origin destroyed the upper flat of a two-storey house at Lot 959 Fourth Field, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, yesterday. Homeless are Kendeka Bacchus and her infant, Lakeish Daniels, her son, and her nephew.
According to Daniels, the house belongs to her mother and she has been residing in it for the past seven years. The lower flat is unfinished.
The burnt building
Daniels told Kaieteur News that they left their home around 08:00am yesterday to go out. “We left early and I left my boyfriend inside so that he could lock up the place. I make sure I plug out everything; I only left the fridge on.”
She explained that around 12:45 hours she received a call from her neighbour that her house was on fire. “After she call and tell me that the house was on fire, within five minutes she call back and say that the house bun down.”
According to the frustrated woman, when she arrived the fire was already put out by the fire tenders. “The neighbours tell me that the fire started in the kitchen and they tried to out it but it blaze up more.”
Daniels’s boyfriend, Gregory Higgins, said that he left the house around 10:00am yesterday and as usual, he just locked the doors and headed for East Coast Demerara. “I left to go home and when I reach I call her (Daniels to tell her and I hear she crying and then she tell me that the house bun down so I left and come back.”
