Alleged police boat thieves granted bail
Rohan Khandai and Tulsi Boodram, the two men who police say stole a boat along with a 75HP on Wednesday last, at Wakenaam, were released on $150,000 bail each by Magistrate Sunil Scarce yesterday.
Bail was granted on an application by the individuals’ attorneys.
Khandai and Boodram were jointly charged with simple larceny. The matter was taken summarily and as such both men were allowed to plead. Both Khandai and Boodram entered not guilty pleas.
On November 8, last, at Wakenaam Island the men allegedly stole the boat and its 75 HP engine, from a koker, at San Souci, where the boat is usually moored. The men were apprehended with the boat and engine in Aruka Creek, Region One, on Friday night.
Both men are required to report at the Leonora and Parika Police Stations each Friday. Their next court appearance has been set for January30, 2013,at Wakenaam.
