Jason Stanton of Samatta Point, Grove, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday placed on $50,000 bail after he allegedly threatened abuse, and cut off the hair of his former lover, Carolyn Thomas.
Stanton denied the allegations when he faced (Ag) Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The incident, which allegedly occurred on Thursday September 6, is said to have resulted from a dispute that the couple had after the complainant refused to answer Stanton’s telephone calls.
Police information states that on the day in question the virtual complainant (Thomas) had been to Georgetown to conduct business, but did not answer any of her then boyfriend’s cell phone calls. The man became annoyed, threatened to kill the woman, and hit her in the face with his fist after she returned home.
Thomas told the court that Stanton took a knife and cut off her hair as well as threatened to throw acid on her.
The woman produced pictures to the court as proof of her statement.
The Magistrate then advised that the woman apply for a protection order. The matter was adjourned until October 23.
