Dear Editor,
I am grateful to see a reply from GP&L in yesterday’s Kaieteur News, but that has not made me change my views. In the reply, the power company said that penalties for staff or Contractors convicted of facilitating electricity theft can be twice that for members of the public but that didn’t tell me how many they have charged so far, if any.
How does a customer know if his meter has been tampered with before installation? Based on information I received, most theft is committed by slowing down the meter or by-pass the pre-paid types and that part has a security seal.
The customer doesn’t have to give a name, if GP&L keeps a record of meter installed it would know who is the staff/contractor that installed it and that person should be charged. That is what I am saying!!
Mr. Editor, I always see flimsy excuse for people’s incompetence, and in future if GP&L decides to reply to me, it should also tell me why some parts of Glasgow Housing Scheme has no electricity.
The Regional Manager of GPL, Ayube Bacchus, said that the area is not regularized, but I could point to areas similar to Glasgow Housing Scheme that are not regularized and have power provided by GP&L.
One such area is dominated by East Indians, which makes me wonder if it’s a racial thing.
Imagine after so many year GP&L cannot provide a country with less than one million people with electricity. Sahadeo Bates
