Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai MS, 9th Degree Black Belt and founder of the IKD, promoted 2 students, petite Leah Shariff and Mikhail Broomes to Nidan (2nd degree black belt) during the recent Karate grading examination at the YMCA Thomas Lands held on Sunday October 30.
Instructors Hazrat Ali-Albion and Clinton Moriah of New Amsterdam Berbice; Nathalie Gibson of Linden; Parmeshwar Persaud of Land of Canaan and the Georgetown Instructors have all been pushing their students very hard to make up for the bringing forward of the examinations that should have been held in December 2011.
Shihan Woon-A-Tai returned to Guyana on October 17 to receive his Medal of Service on the October 21 and whilst here proposed to have the Karate grading examination in October 2011.
Following are the results of the exams:
28 new 8th Kyu students (yellow); 15 new 7th Kyu students (orange); 19 new 6th Kyu Students (green); 20 new 5th Kyu students (blue); 12 new 4th Kyu students (purple); 6 new 3rd Kyu students (brown); 4 new 2nd Kyu students (brown); 8 new 1st Kyu students (brown); 4 new Shodan students (1stDegree Black); 2 new Nidan students (2nd Degree Black).
The outstanding kyu students were Arielle Matthews who was promoted to Green belt from White. Colissa Trotman, who was promoted to Green belt from Yellow. Armand Ramdhano and Sachin Ramdhani who were promoted to Blue belt from Orange.
Nathon Hackett, Jessica Azeez, Karran Persaud and Laurence Lowe worked hard to be promoted to Shodans.
Petite Leah Shariff and Mikhail Broomes performed outstanding to earn the nod from Shihan Woon-A-Tai and their promotion to Nidan.
Shihan Woon-A-Tai took time out to address the parents and students, reminding them of the 2012 IKD World Shoto Cup that will be held in Canada. He said he is looking forward to a large contingent from Guyana competing at that championship.
Meanwhile, ASK-Guyana is extending warmest congratulations to Shihan Woon-A-Tai on receiving The Medal of Service for his contribution to Karate in Guyana, thanking him for his support and encouragement over the years.
