A man who was described as a “loose cannon” was on Friday remanded to jail after he visited the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer three separate charges. Malcolm Henry appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell to answer the charges of assaulting his reputed wife Mardrie Mendonza, resisting arrest, and assaulting the said officer.
The 46-year-old Henry and the woman lived together. They both worked at Enmore Mining Company in the Backdam. The court heard that it was a regular habit of the man to assault the woman. On the day of the incident, October 26 at Big Creek Port Kaituma, the lovers had a heated argument over some raw gold.
The defendant according to the prosecution reportedly dealt the complainant several cuffs about her body causing her to receive injuries. The matter was subsequently reported to the Port Kaituma Police Station.
The court again heard that Henry, on October 27, at Eclipse Falls, Port Kaituma, resisted arrest from a police constable.
The magistrate remanded him and transferred the matter to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrates’ Court for a November 1 appearance.
