Guyana 50-overs team to be picked today
Chanderpaul to work with batsmen before departing for Bangladesh
The National cricket Selectors headed by former First-Class pacer Rayon Griffith have selected a provisional 29-man Guyana squad to begin preparations for the Regional Super50 Tournament which runs from October 19-29 in Guyana.
All players selected are expected to report to the GCC ground Bourda at 09:30hrs today to undergo fitness tests before the 14-member squad and six stand-bys should be selected this evening.

All out of town players are reminded that if selected they will immediately commence encampment as Guyana, hunting their first title at this level since 2005, prepare for their opening match against the Windward Islands.
Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and his Albion spin twin Veerasammy Permaul along with Test pacer Brandon Bess and former West Indies youth batsman Rajendra Chandrika were unavailable for selection.
Bishoo will be in Bangladesh with the West Indies during the Regional Super 50 while Permaul, Bess and Chandrika are members of the Barbados based HPC side.
Experienced Test left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul will not be available for this Tournament due to Test match duties with the West Indies Team in Bangladesh but the GCB yesterday disclosed that he will participate in the training camp in an effort to assist the batsmen to be better prepared for next month’s competition.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, who missed the El Dorado 50 over competition and was not picked for the ODI series to Bangladesh due to a recurring back injury, has been named in the training squad and is expected to be named in the 14 today.
It is understood that the stylish right-hander should be fully fit to resume competitive cricket a week before the Regional competition commences. He will undergo a fitness test just before the start of the Super50 and if he is not fit enough he will be replaced in the Guyana side.
Former West Indies Test batsmen Travis Dowlin and Sewnarine Chattergoon, who both played for the President’s X1 in the El Dorado 50-overs competition have been named in the 29-man training squad.
