Abilash Dookie stroked a confident 105 and Surendra Herilall supported with 44 but GYO still fell two short of taking first innings points from Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) at the Police ground in the opening round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) two-day first division cricket competition.

In the only match played over the weekend, Carlos LaRose (38), Danny Narayan (25) and Shaquille Williams (37) helped MSC to 234 as Anthony Ifill (3-52), pacer Leon Scott (2-84) and Herilall (2-15) were the main wicket takers for GYO who were bowled out for 232 despite Dookie’s century.
Narayan shrugged off the disappointment of not being selected in any of the two teams picked by the GCB selectors despite his consistency in GCA competitions, bagged 5-40 and got support from National under-15 leg-spinner Steven Sankar who took 3-8 from 13 overs.
Former Guyana t20 batsman Orin Forde retuned to action with 61, while LaRose (58) and pacer Seon Daniels (31) supported as MSC made 196 in their second innings with Herilall getting three wickets and Shaeed Mohammed and Scott taking two each in the draw encounter. The competition continues this weekend.
