T&T make Guyana see ‘Red’ despite 4-12 from impressive Bishoo

The optimists will tell you that after making 91-6 off 15 overs on Tuesday in their 53-run loss to Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana produced an improved performance yesterday at Bourda; reaching 96-8 off 20 overs before losing by five wickets in the last of two t20 practice matches between the two sides.
But the Realists will claim the hosts produced another lackluster performance which lacked pride and passion as only West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo (4-12 from 4 overs) looked the part for the Guyanese who batted first on a good track in sweltering heat.
The well-oiled and professional looking T&T combination, labeled the ‘Red Force’ for this year’s Champions League t20 tournament in India made the Guyanese see ‘Red’ by reducing them to 38-6 before Steven Jacobs followed up his unbeaten 31 on Tuesday with 23 not out from 15 balls and added 20 for the eighth wicket with Jonathon Foo who made 21 from 25 balls.

Royston Crandon, who made 16 from 17 balls, was the only other Guyanese to reach double figures as leg-spinner Samuel Badree (who opened the bowling) and left-arm spinner Dave Mohamed took two wickets each for T&T who reached 97-5 off 15.4 overs before requesting to bat out their remaining overs for practice.
Adrian Barath led the way with seven fours and a six from 41 balls before he swept Bishoo to deep square-leg with the scores tied.
The match began in ‘scrubby fashion’ without the official book scorers who were not informed that their services were required for both matches by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) office.
The mental indiscipline and lack of urgency by the Guyanese batsmen almost reduced the proceedings to a glorified net session even as the visitors looked ready to represent the West Indies in their second Champion League tournament after losing in the 2009 final in India.
Trevon Griffith and debutant Andrew Lyght Junior were both removed for ducks by Badree to leave Guyana on 3-2 and when Narsingh Deonarine (1) walked across his stumps and had his leg-stump sent cart-wheeling by Ravi Rampaul without addition to the score, the small but raucous crowd were already venting their disgust.
Royston Crandon fell at 26-4 and Assad Fudadin (8) was removed by Lendl Simmons at 36-5 before Chris Barnwell (4) was shockingly sent packing, leg before to Mohamed. Barnwell would have been struck ‘plumb in front’ if the match was being played on the Eastern pitch adjacent to the one being used and Guyana were wobbling on the ropes at 38-6.
Derwin Christian (8) did not look like a player just selected for his debut West Indies tour and his complacent running between the wickets before he slashed Kevin Cooper to short third man at 54-7, would have embarrassed even schoolboy batsmen.
Foo departed in the penultimate over before Jacobs and Bishoo carried their team close to a triple figure total for the Guyanese, the only other West Indian team to play in the Champions League.
T&T were off to a good start before Simmons, who made 88 on Tuesday fell in the 7th over at 48 to Bishoo, who trapped William Perkins leg before next ball.
But with the only chance of victory being to bowl out T&T Skipper Royston Crandon took Bishoo out of the attack after his first over and although the leg-spinner bowled Captain Daren Ganga (19) at 83-3 when he was brought back in the 12th over, victory was just 14 runs away.
