The presiding magistrates, currently executing duties within the county of Essequibo, are expected to operate in much more comfort, after the commissioning of the new building to accommodate the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
Those sentiments were expressed by both Chancellor of the Judiciary, Carl Singh, and President Bharrat Jagdeo, who were among the special invitees to the occasion.
In his speech, the Chancellor said the new court is a testament to current developments unfolding in the judicial system in Guyana.
Singh further stressed that with the new building being put into operation, the magistrates will continue to give of their best, despite the volume of cases facing them.
He also urged the residents to care the new facility.
President Jadgeo in his address to the large gathering asserted that the building signifies a systematic change in what is currently happening across the nation.
“In spite of progress, especially in the riverain areas, more job opportunities are to be created on the Coast.” This the president opined will not materialize without proper infrastructure. The president told Essequibians that with the final implementation of the fibre optic cable, more jobs will be created for young people in the region.
Jagdeo however indicated that with the judiciary being independent in Guyana, he suspects that better services will be meted out to the residents of Region Two, while hoping one day that disputes will be solved outside of the courts.
The commissioning of the Charity Magistrate Court also saw the presence of Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, Public Service Minister Jennifer Westford, PPP/C Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar, Presidential Advisor Gail Teixeira, Chancellor of the Judiciary Carl Singh, Chief Justice Ian Chang, Justice B.S. Roy, Region Two Chairman Ally Baksh and presiding magistrates Leron Daly and Faith Mc Gusty.
The new building which had been under construction for almost over a year cost $20.4M.

Multi million dollar Court Houses are pointless when justice being stymied by politicization. I hope the trial involving the courageous columnist, Freddie Kissoon does not fall victim to political intimidation. True democratic countries do not allow their sitting presidents to sue private or corporate citizens.
Someone should run a comparison between the cost of a similar building and this one. The result may not be too surprising giving the inflated cost that the Government is willing to pay for the erection of public structures.
New court same old justice . You big you walk free , you a lil fish them fry you in hot oil .
I think you all better give this contractor all the projects I can’t see how this two story building cost 20 million and that one at Corriverton they show yesterday cost 69 million.
WTH, this building costs 20.4m and more that doubles that NIS building which cost 69m?.How could this be?Somebody must be funning!!!
Another white elephant. LOL
even this contract cost less than NIS
I think that the building in Berbice was built with Gold and the one in Essequibo was built with straw. There’s your answer LOL
