Through diligent work by their Technical staff, the United Kingdom based ‘Golden Jaguars’ will take on Ryman Premier League Club ‘Tooting and Mitcham United’ first team in a pre-season friendly match on Tuesday August 16, 2011 from 19:45hrs.
The match is to be played at the very impressive Tooting and Mitcham United’s ‘Imperial Fields Stadium’ where Premiership Football Club Chelsea have their Women’s Super League Team play their home games. According to the Golden Jaguars Technical staff, “The occasion under floodlights will provide a true test for both teams”.
Mark Beard Former Professional footballer with Sheffield United and Millwall and now First Team Manager at Tooting and Mitcham United said he is looking forward to the challenge against the ‘Golden Jaguars’ and is putting out a full strength side in anticipation of a good physical game.
Also, Tooting and Mitcham’s highly competitive Club Captain and top goal scorer ‘Jamie Byatt’ is relishing a good midfield battle, an area of the pitch where he believes the game will be won or lost.
An Enthusiastic Bunch!!! Some of the UK-based Golden Jaguars take time out for a photo with coaches Peter Barry (left) and Nicky Bolt (2nd row right) after another tough training session recently.
Securing a game of this magnitude and at such a prestigious venue is testament and a well deserved reward to the progress and commitment of the UK Guyana Team, its players and coaching staff of Peter Barry and Nicky Bolt and a great advertisement for The Solidrock Football Academy in the UK.
Coach Nicky Bolt commented: “With the Caribbean tournament just weeks away and with a now prestigious pre-season friendly against a very accomplished football club indeed in Tooting and Mitcham United, the team here with the Golden Jags and the players we have, it’s easy to see we are going from strength to strength and it will only be a matter of time before people start to sit up take notice of us.
“We’re already looking beyond the Caribbean tournament to the Tooting game and thereafter, we have a mindset now that you get nothing without hard work and you only get out what you put in with football.”
Bolt also stated that when he first started coaching the Golden Jaguars in London, he had no idea how far and wide the Guyanese message was going.
“The GFF have a little jewel in the crown here and hopefully we can sustain a good standard of football and create something special. The players we have here are building a team spirit that is unique and different to anything I have experienced before.
The talent pool the GFF has here is quite honestly staggering and we look to make Guyana proud of what we are achieving here, everything that we do and achieve, the guys within the camp hope will echo back home in Guyana and provide the people there a clear message that no matter where the Guyanese football flag is flying we’re in it to win it.”
Coach Peter Barry reminded that they are excited about unearthing talent that will ultimately enhance and solidify Guyana’s reputation and return as a powerhouse in Caribbean football and further afield. He reminded that the players too, have been showing great enthusiasm while the Solidrock Football Academy and the Guyanese vision is unwavering.
