The first round of the Demerara Female Inter-Association 50-over cricket competition was held at the DCC ground yesterday with East Coast and West Bank Demerara battling to determine who secure the best position to contest for the title.
With East Coast winning the toss, the captain Reneka Isaacs decided to take first strike. They made a total of 150 runs all out in 40.5 overs, which included 60 extras, with Fay Franklyn 43 not out and Reneka Isaacs 26 the main run scorers among the batters.
Despite intermittent rain, the battle between the two female teams was intense. Nalini Sumintra of West Bank Demerara captured a total of six wickets in 8.5 overs, bowling one maiden at a cost of 20 runs to headline the bowling department for her team.
East Coast fought back hard eventually restricting West Bank Demerara to 114 all out off 32.1 overs. Extras was the highest contributor with 54.
Angela Walrond, the left handed bowler, claimed three wickets for East Coast. Tracy Glasgow, captain of West Bank Demerara, scored 29 not out, being involved in a significant 69-run partnership with Jeanette Daniels, taking the score from to 42-7 to 111-8.
The second round of this competition continues at DCC ground today from 9:30am with Georgetown playing East Bank.
