An unlicensed driver was nabbed by police after he had escaped from the scene of an accident after knocking a pedestrian into a nearby trench, before slamming the speeding car into a lamp post.
Adrian Singh, 27, of Smythfield was not licensed to drive a motor vehicle. However, on Sunday, about 16:15 hrs he was driving motor car PHH 3823, a black 192 Toyota Carina at a fast rate of speed on the Mount Sinai, West Canje Public Road when he struck Rayann Hinds, a pedestrian.
The woman was hurled into a nearby trench, prompting public-spirited citizens to plunge overboard and rescue the woman who was then rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital, where she was treated and sent away. Singh then crashed into a lamp post.
The man, who miraculously escaped any serious injuries, then bolted from the wrecked car. However, his escape was short lived as he was hunted down and captured by the police about two hours after.
He was subsequently released on station bail as investigation continues.
