Dear Editor,
Region Two has seen some extraordinary social and economic developments that have occurred between the Government and other non governmental agencies over the last five years. My observation is not necessarily an anointment of the Government, especially during this season of general elections, but it is a gentle appreciation of a marvelous spectacle that is as proudly revealed as an existing beauty within the housing sector.
The Mainstay Princeville Housing Development Scheme, situated in the Mainstay/Wayaka Amerindian village and just about a mile away from the Mainstay Resort, is indeed a wonderful sight. The neatly built two-bed-room wooden
houses are all adored in a kaleidoscope of colours and were meticulously arranged and invented with a touch of artistry.
It is now becoming a tourist attraction that Essequibians can be proud of and even more importantly, the inhabitants that are primarily Amerindians. Though I am not a regular visitor to the Resort, the exciting prospect of passing through the village is always a moment to revere that is not only pleasurable during the day but at nights as well, since the village has generators and solar system.
The Amerindians love their traditional values as well as the advent of modern music that they will blast in the open air with their massive stereo systems during the week ends. Any visitor will love the atmosphere and hospitality of the forested environment.
This collaborative effort between the Government and Food For The Poor Incorporated must be commended since the insecurity and the ancient way of life for the Amerindians, is fast becoming a thing of the past.
There is also the Red Village in Suddie which is another wonderful development and I am aware that there are other such projects that are going to be developed throughout the Essequibo Coast. For the moment though, Princeville Village indeed has the class of a royal surrounding that Essequibians should all cherish.
