Dear Editor,
I am very much concerned with President Jagdeo’s ‘cuss down, buse out’ attitude to dignified and respected citizens of Guyana. As the Head of State, head of an organisation or even the head of your own home, it is expected that one should set an example for others to follow.
It is really a great feeling when someone in authority left a legacy that is truly and greatly admired by his or her successors or followers. In this scenario we are talking about the citizens of Guyana who are the followers and the Head of State with his usual personal attacks on citizens who discloses or exposes sensitive information that does not find favour with the ruling Party .
I have personally known Mr. Glen Lall for several decades, even before Glen had given a thought of starting the Kaieteur News publication, which initially started at Saffon Street, Charlestown.
He is known to be a man of integrity, honesty and respect and has proven time and again to be a patriotic and a truly trustworthy and helpful Guyanese. He has demonstrated his generosity, willingness and kind heartedness to help several people in distress in both Guyana and abroad.
He has taken the responsibility on his own to raise, money for several poor families who lost love one by massacre in Guyana and for other needy and poor families (he also made generous contributions). The whole of Guyana knows that as well as followers abroad, since figures were published on a daily basis in the Kaieteur News.
The President went even further to try to degrade Glen Lall and his Publishing Co. by indicating that the Kaieteur News replaced the New Nation “because Adam Harris who was the Editor of New Nation is now the Editor of Kaieteur News”.
Mr. Jagdeo should be reminded that Kaieteur News, in its initial stage, started differently as with several other magazines and newspapers. Adam Harris, the publisher (Glen Lall), and the entire staff of Kaieteur News has made Kaieteur News the most widely read newspapers in Guyana and abroad (as you can see from the on-line hits published daily). Kaieteur News reporters are known to bring out more information for the public; they are known to probe further, dig deeper to get first hand and tangible information out. This is what you call modern journalism.
Is the President implying that because Adam Harris was employed by an opposition party, he should only be working for that party? Is the Head of State indicating that in order for an individual to be granted a job within the public sector or any State agency that the Government has absolute control of, he/she will be screened to ensure that they have no affiliation to other opposition parties?
That is gross nepotism. (I would like the Guyanese people read the article (14-04-11 Guyana Chronicle), “President launches scathing attack on Kaieteur News publisher” and determine what he is trying to imply when referring to Adam Harris.
These are statements that cannot be tolerated in the Guyanese society and as the Head of State that should be a no no, as it implies favouritism to a certain group, while castigating the other.
Once again, I would like the entire Guyanese community and all Kaieteur News readers know that Mr. Glen Lall has came from a very humble family and he has work honestly and tirelessly to meet his current hallmark. He is a true son of Guyana and well respected by the young and old, rich and poor. These can be attested by several prominent citizens as well as persons in all other walks of life. Glen, I am very proud that I was introduced to you and I personally know you are beyond corruption and bribery, something intolerable by your standard.
Laurence Williams
