Speeding was blamed for Wednesday’s accident, which has left two police rank hospitalised. The two ranks’ names were given as Balroop and Ramdass, called Doorga, both of Supenaam.
According to reports, Balroop, who works in the Criminal Investigation Department at Charity, was heading home to Supenaam, at around 5:30 pm on Thursday evening. One resident of Supenaam said the C.I.D. rank who was under the influence of alcohol, was also speeding.
The report added that Balroop, who was proceeding south along the Essequibo Public Road, first made a stop at the Anna Regina Police Station, where he chatted with another rank.
The rank that was traveling alone at the time, continued on his journey, but reportedly, made another stop at the Aurora outpost, where he picked up Ramdass who works at Aurora as a Neighbourhood Police officer.
Balroop, who was reportedly driving his father-in-law’s car, was said to be speeding when the car drove off the Aurora Public road and ended up in a nearby trench.
He sustained five broken ribs and had to be flown to Georgetown, while Ramdass, sustained a fractured jaw.
