Dear Editor,
I was surprised to read in SN, February 25, 2011, that Mr. Hamilton Green is showing his concerns about the welfare of poor people in Guyana.
During the Burnham era, Mr. Green was Prime Minister and did nothing at that time to stop the suffering meted to Guyanese people. Many Guyanese had to depend on the black-market to provide food for their families.
Those who could not afford to buy food had to wait in long lines for food items. Those days took its toll on families. If one was to go back to that time, I am sure that there were high morbidity and mortality rates.
Mr. Green had an opportunity to stop the suffering but he did not. If he had then we would not have about 450,000 people suffering from poverty. On a positive side, Mr. Green has shown his aptitude in math, maybe the Government can hire him as a Math teacher. Sherlock Rawana, PhD
