Feb 14, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
Thank you Malcolm Harripaul, and all the hundreds of others who donated tens of thousands of US dollars to the AFC in Queens New York on Friday Night (11/2/2011). They came and challenged the bitter cold from as far as Pennsylvania, Washington, Florida and of course the tri-state area. Thanks to all those folks from Bronx and Brooklyn and Queens who came to hear Mr. Raphael Trotman, leader of the party and Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan – the next president of Guyana.
We are forever grateful that you donated your monies for the political, economic and social emancipation of Guyana. We are grateful to the kids who put their one dollar in the box to the business people who donated the big cheques, all of it mattered and all of it is a dollar for democracy in Guyana. Big up to the Canadians and Floridian, we are coming next week-end, go on to www.voteafc.com to find out the details. We ask you to tell your families in Florida and Toronto to come out and support the AFC with your brains and financial resources in our mission to save Guyana from the ‘thieves’ who continue to plunder the Treasury, leaving less for your families back home.
But why Mr. Malcolm Harripaul? I refer to a letter from Tacuma Ogunseye captioned “Harripaul’s embrace of the AFC boggles the mind”. Let me make it clear that Mr. Harripaul is more than competent to defend his political actions and I am sure he will be formally responding to Tacuma. However, it is my duty as a Member of the Alliance for Change to clarify Tacuma’s misconception with respect to our political party. I have a lot of respect for Tacuma from his day in the struggle to remove the PNC dictatorship and that is why it is puzzling to observe this intellectual confusion on public display by my elder when he implicitly question Mr. Harripaul political actions.
Let me make it clear to my respected elder Tacuma, the AFC is not focused on the PNCR or the PPP; the AFC is focused singularly at winning the next elections and we need the help of the Tacumas, the Harripauls, the Nagamootoos, the Chandrapals, the Carl Greenidges, the Van West Charles, the Christopher Rams, the Yesu Persauds and all the liberal democrats in Guyana. Yes liberal democrats like Tacuma have a place in the next AFC Government.
Let me make it clear as our leader Raphael Trotman said on Friday night, we in the AFC cannot undo the damage to our country perpetuated by the PNC/PPP alliance after 45 years unless we seek the help and support of the Diaspora and all the Liberal Democrats in Guyana. We need the Diaspora and all the Liberal Democrats in Guyana with their talent, their financial resources, and their superior work ethics. The AFC have assessed the mental, physical and financial damage done to the people in the last 10 years by the Jagdeo administration and we are clearly aware of the height of the mountain we have to climb to make Guyana the Singapore of the Americas, but we are committed to the task.
We are confident enough as a political organisation that we will have a fundamental impact on democracy in Guyana at the upcoming elections, the people are telling us clearly this is what they want. I personally walked some of the rural villages, urban areas, the markets, the car parks and some of the board rooms of corporate Guyana with Lionel Peters last month and overwhelmingly we are being told, we are fed up with the PPP/PNC, we are ready for a change, we are ready for the Alliance for Change. So why must the AFC, ignore the wishes of the people and become a political prostitute of the PPP/PNC?
If Raphael and Khemraj and people like myself wanted position and power in Guyana, we would have shut up and tell the Jagdeos and Corbins how great leaders they are and guaranteed ourselves power and wealth without work. But we are of a different pedigree; we read our Bible, our Koran and our Gita and are on a mission to conquer the unrighteous forces in Guyana and they can be found in the PNCR and PPP among the many places. We question ideology, we question ideas, we question
people, we question events, and we question activities; not for the sake of questioning, but to make the system stronger to better empower and enrich our people.
We are not “pouch paunch Mahaica cuss birds” who are prepared to sell anyone for power, sell anyone for wealth without work and sell anyoner for influence without principles. All it took of the Mahaica man was to read the Marxist review in 1990 onwards and run up to Tsarina of the PPP, Janet Jagan and full her head that Marxism is coming back, how the PPP can build a Marxist society in Guyana and how he plans to help her build that Marxist society in Guyana. She smiled and she was hooked on the kool-aid for life. This led her to make that decision that screwed-up Guyana for the last 12 years. The rest is history.
Well Ramjattan and Trotman kick the thieving class who continue to steal from the treasury; they kick those who burn the private parts of children; they kick those who encourage phantom pensioners for their own self-enrichment; and they will kick those who are trying in desperation to drive fear into the people.
Guyana will no longer be the same again after the 2011 elections, we in the AFC are committed to breaking the PPP/PNC un-holy alliance hold on Guyana. Egypt has fallen; our Egypt moment is coming where the Face book, Twitter and Google crowds will chase the thieves from office with their slipper and blogs; not guns. The AFC is the only organisation that can mould this crowd into the forces of change to save our country.
But more importantly, we know that linking with the PNCR or the PPP in a pre-election adventurism will result in political suicide for the AFC and is just plain wrong.
It goes against our DNA to hug up these democratic centrists/Marxists in the PNCR and PPP. The members and supporters of the AFC are not interested in doing the same old political actions and thus it would be most sub-optimal to join any of these dinosaurs’ at this point in time. The AFC is committed to:
• Defending and improving the civil liberties of the people against the oppressive forces in Guyana.
• Regulating government actions against the citizenry – under the AFC government, there will be no fear in Guyana.
• Fostering the intellectual freedom of its people, we welcome constructive criticism and we encourage one and all to question us, it is the only way we can become stronger and more focus on our mission to free Guyana.
• Rewarding the citizens based on merit and hard work; our president in waiting Khemraj Ramjattan said on Friday night that under an AFC Government no longer will Guyana be a country where wealth is accumulated without work.
• Publicly scrutinise demands made by all interest groups seeking privileges beyond what the man-in-the street is eligible.
We are preparing, we are ready as we await the message from the people when the vote. The people will tell us what they want us to do.
Why this fear of the PPP elder Tacuma? The AFC is not fearful of them, we shall challenge them in the villages, in the urban areas and in the hinterland and win them, we are confident about that so be at peace my elder Tacuma. Join us in the journey of emancipating Guyana; your political action is very valuable to us. The winning game is with the AFC, not with the PNCR my brother. You forefather lost too much blood for us as a people to ever forgive the PNCR and PPP for screwing up Guyana over the last 45 years with their oppressive actions.
There is nothing treacherous about displacing the PNCR and PPP from the seats of power in Guyana which they have occupied in musical chair style for more than 45 years.
It is unfortunate that elder Tacuma does not realise that the Face book, Twitter and Google generation of Guyanese are taking over Guyana and they have no place in their political lives for the PPP and the PNCR.
