Six injured in canal smash up
Six persons were injured after AT 192 HB 9036 collided with another hire car, HB 7883 in Canal Number Two, last night. They were taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where some were admitted.
Some of the injured were; Sunil Roopnarine and, Devindra Narine, 27, of Canal Polder, and Gewan Ramkissoon, 21, and Subhas Joseph, 49, of Bel West Housing Scheme.
According to residents in the area, the driver of HB 7883 who was identified as Subhas Joseph, 49, called ‘Big Head’ of Bel West Housing Scheme, was driving East on Canal Number Two road, while the other vehicle which was speeding collided with Joseph, pinning him inside his car, while HB 9036 and its occupants skidded onto the parapet of the road.
However, residents rescued him along with the five passengers who were in HB 9036 at the time of the crash. The driver of HB 9036 was identified as Devindra Narine called “Buck Boy.” A police pick-up carried all the injured to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Residents in the area related that the occupants of HB 9036 were all intoxicated when they were extricated from the car.
One of Joseph’s relatives said that the driver of HB 9036 is offering compensation for the damage to his relatives’ car, “but we don’t want to hear about that at this time.”
Police are investigating the matter.
