Outgoing President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chetram Singh MS was honoured on Saturday last by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) as part of its Tribute to Heroes Programme for his outstanding contribution to the development of Guyana’s Cricket.

Singh was inducted as an Honorary Member of the BCB by West Indies female cricketers Shemaine Campbelle and Tremayne Smartt who presented him with the Certificate signifying the occasion.
The veteran administrator also received a Tribute to Heroes Plaque and Medal from the Berbice Board along with a floral arrangement for Mrs. Singh.
Public Relations Officer and Chairman of the BCB’s Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster hailed Singh as an outstanding administrator whose legacy of success would surpass the passage of time.
Foster stated that while Singh would be leaving office at the time when Guyana’s cricket was at a low level, his contributions as a visionary and passionate administrator was unmatched locally.
He highlighted several achievements under Singh’s leadership and expressed gratitude to him for being a positive role model to others.
While wishing Singh a peaceful and happy retirement, Foster urged him to share his vast experience with young and promising sports leaders.
BCB President Keith Foster and Treasurer Anil Beharry also paid tribute to Singh.
President Foster stated that Singh was a visionary leader who always placed the game of cricket first and who made outstanding contributions towards the development of the game.
Beharry noted that he served as Assistant Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board under Singh’s leadership and was always impressed with his ability to lead by example.
An emotional Singh thanked the Berbice Board for recognising him while stating that he was elated to be inducted as an Honorary Member of the best organised and productive Cricket Board in Guyana.
He noted that his service to cricket was because of his love for the game and not for personal glory.
He pledged to work along with both the BCB and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, noting that they are doing a remarkable job of assisting cricketers and the less fortunate.
President of the Demerara Cricket Board Bissoondyal Singh and former West Indies Vice Captain and President of the Georgetown Cricket Association Roger Harper also paid tribute to Singh.
