Bissoondyal’s star may be fading fast

I have been following very closely the continuous saga of Mr. Singh’s quest for power. I note that Mr. Bissoondyal Singh is now the president of the East Coast Board, President of one faction of the Demerara Cricket Board and is hotly pursuing the Guyana Board presidency.
Is he a President of any Club on the East Coast? His next stop may be at the 2011 national elections as he may very well throw his hat in the ring for the ruling party or some one of the other fringe parties since he seem to have an insatiable ambition to be a national President to enhance his profile.
Mr Singh has been boasting publicly that he has been endorsed by the ruling party and has had the active support of two of the President’s Ministers campaigning on his behalf, namely, Housing Minister, Irfaan Ali and Tourism Minister Manniram Prashad. It is well known that these Ministers are close confidantes of the President and it is widely believed that they would not display a public show of support for Mr. Singh unless it was known or perceived that Mr. Bissoondyal Singh did have the blessing of the President.
This is debatable. Mr. Singh seems to be fighting a very strategic battle since he started out by hiring a prominent party lawyer and MP in the form of Anil Nandlall. It may be that the President may have been misled about the chances of this candidate as there is no way Bissoondyal Singh will be the President of the Guyana Board given the present circumstances.
Mr. Bissoondyal Singh’s faction resembles an East Coast/Malteenoes Cricket Board rather than a Demerara Cricket Board with no other Club represented on that Executive. The other faction seems to be very broad-based with the inclusion of veteran Competitions Committee man in the form of Colin Europe and former National player, Alfred Mentore.
Incidentally, only last year Alfred Mentore was shockingly ousted from the Georgetown Association by Roger Harper in what was widely seen as a very unprofessional and unethical act against someone who was performing well in the position. At that meeting, Bissoondyal Singh attended as a representative of a Club, GCC, and along with Harper
had exchanged/switched appointed delegates to suit their purpose. Harper is now facing elections again.
Harper has entered a political field that is plagued by controversy courtesy of Bissoondyal Singh and his political campaign weapon, Jaigobin’s disfigurement. Bissoondyal Singh has been the common denominator at the middle of all the controversies at both the Demerara and the Guyana Board levels.
Many now feel that if Bissoon cannot function well enough at the East Coast level, why allow him to go further. It is not known if he has any achievements at a Club level. There is word now that since Bissoondyal realizes that his time is near at the DCB level since if the makeup of the Georgetown Board changes hands as it is likely to do, he would then have 75 per cent of the DCB members against him, a position which he cannot defend. This is the reason that he has instructed Harper to cancel the Georgetown elections to safeguard his position at the DCB and hope that he wins the Judge’s decision on the fate of the two factions.
Bissoon is treading on very thin ice and his time is well nigh near and the earlier he can accept the fact that his mission is impossible and try to adopt a more conciliatory position rather than a continuous confrontational one, he would be a happy man.
