Dear Editor,
For some time now, I have been noticing some letters and columns in your publication on the jarring subject of Domestic Violence. In many instances, the authors of these columns/letters project themselves as ‘Activists’ against Domestic Violence.
However, their writings and their ‘activism’ seem more in line with that of Women Rights Activism and not Domestic Violence which covers multiple scenarios.
Some of these articles, it appears, are prepared without the benefit of diligent research or any regards for established facts. Subsequently, when filtered their message is really ‘Women are good, Men are bad’ which is monotonous, lacking depth and misleading.
Under the caption “She asked for it” (KN Jan 12, 2011) one columnist submitted and had published the following blunders and absurdities:
“Some battered women stay because they believe what their assailant is telling them, such as – You’re crazy and stupid. No one will believe you; You’re the one that’s sick. You need help. You’re hysterical; I know the judge; he won’t put me in jail; The police will never arrest me; It’s not serious. You’re not really battered; If you leave, I’ll get custody because you’ll have abandoned me and the kids; If you leave, I’ll find you and kill you. I’ll kill your family, your kids, and your pets; You’ll never escape me.”
I am not insensitive to the victims of violence of any kind, but I believe that the time has come for alternate views to be made prominent and to dispel the feminist myths and fabrications of Domestic Violence. Most people would agree that the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta Georgia are reputable sources, so let’s look at some research they did.
To summarise a report published in the American Journal of Public Health in May 2007. About 24 per cent of all relationships have some level of violence. For half of those involved just one of the partners is violent, the other half were reciprocally violent.
In the relationships where violence was committed by one partner, over 70 per cent were committed by the female.
In that particular study, seven out of 10 batterers were female. The data where both partners are violent is even more interesting. The study concludes that reciprocally violent relationships are more likely to result in physical injuries, especially to females.
They were also a solid predictor of future repeated violence for women, not men. In other words, women who engage in mutual combat with men are likely to have a pattern of instigating repeatedassaults. I believe in Guyanese parlance it is called “knack gat knack back”.
While there is no real excuse for violence, there is however a legal and dare I say moral justification for self defence. This brings us to a double standard in the legal system.
In the eyes of the law everyone is equal right? Not so fast. A man who cold-bloodedly murders his wife in her sleep is a beast, a savage, a murderer. Passions are inflamed and he is condemned even before his trial. A woman commits the same act and she has a ready-made defence handed to her by feminist Psychologist Lenore Walker. “Battered-Wife Syndrome.” This is an illness, according to her. It allows a woman to plan and execute the murder of her husband and then claim that she did it out of fear for her own life and that of her children.
No clear or immediate threat needs to exist at the time; all she has to do is allege a history of physical abuse.
Chock full of distortions can also be found in other contributions submitted via several letters depicting women as passive, innocent, angelic beings who in their quest to find happiness in comfortable homes, are beaten raped, tortured, enslaved and murdered by the very men they chose to help them fulfill their dreams.
Here is an interesting statistic I found. About 15 per cent of children are raised by men who are not their fathers, but are made to believe that they are. How could that be? Women are supposed to be perfect. To most women that is an alien factoid; they never heard it before, but Susan Walsh did. She posted it on her Web Site.
Not so long ago ABC weather reporter, Heidi Jones, lied about an attempted sexual assault. She claimed that she was attacked by a man while jogging in New York’s Central Park and bystanders scared him off. Later she claimed that the same man showed up outside her apartment and threatened her with the words “I know you went to the cops.” Amazingly she also lied and said that the NYPD refused to take her statement when she reported the horrific incident.
Ostensibly due to her public profile, Jones was provided police protection for several weeks. Over time detectives started to discern inconsistencies in her story. When confronted, she confessed to making it up.
Lies such as this are now a huge part of societal problems. Many people’s lives and reputations are destroyed forever by them and resources dwindled. But don’t tell that to feminist activists; they don’t care. Their agenda must be advanced by all means. Government funding and Charitable donations are what keep those organizations going, but where does the money go? Obviously to fund the lifestyles of the head of the organizations as there are not hundreds of women in Shelters across the country. Men get zero assistance, so where is the money?
The problem with this misleading information is that they help to steer resources away from the real source of the problem. As long as we continue to deny that women cause as much violence as men do, there will be no real help for them or any sanction against their behaviour, and the cycle of violence within those families will continue.
