Dear Editor,
Several comments on the exchange between Mr. Vishnu Bisram and Dr. Rose Asquith on the medical licence for Dr. Persaud stand out.
I am impressed with Bisram’s polls and his many reports keeping Guyanese informed about activities of the Diaspora.
However, on the issue of a medical licence for Dr. Persaud, I think Mr. Bisram showed poor judgment.
He erred in requesting that Dr. Persaud be given a chance to practice in Guyana without examining the implications of the request. I agree with Asquith that it is poor judgment.
I hope Mr. Bisram continues his prolific writings, because without them we will be poorer in knowledge on issues impacting on the Diaspora and how people feel about the government.
Dr. Asquith is very harsh in his condemnations of Mr. Bisram and several of his comments have no relevance to the topic. And yes I agree with Mr. Bisram that Asquith’s response is personality instead of issue driven.
Dr. Asquith claims to be a Professor of Political Science, but really comes across as an academic fraud for the below stated reasons:
1. Asquith claims he “teaches a course called Political Research Methodology at one of the most prestigious and highest educational institution in the U.S.”, but did not state which university. That by itself casts doubt on his claim.
2. Asquith writes: “Most of Bisram’s letters clearly indicate…” I find it incredible that Asquith read all of Bisram’s letters and count the number to come up with “most”…
3. Asquith states that “Bisram claims that he knows everything”. That is a fabrication as I did not read any such comments in Bisram’s many letters and it is hard to believe anyone would make a claim he or she knows everything.
4. Asquith pens: “We know from his various faked polls…” but Asquith has not stated how the polls are faked and he fails to offer any evidence to support his charge.
5. Asquith states: “Most Guyanese know that you…” It is incomprehensible how someone can form such a conclusion of “most…” as that conclusion can only be made from a poll conducted on Guyanese. So pray, tell us, Dr. Asquith when and why did you conduct this poll on Guyanese on how they view Mr. Bisram?
6. Asquith writes: “… so-called deceptive faked polls…” The language is poor as those three descriptions are not used together in a sentence – three negatives together. It is called redundancy, giving the impression that Asquith is not a Professor. A competent professor would not use such language. Also, the fact that Asquith’s writing is eclectic, casts doubts about his claim as a professor.
If he were indeed a Professor of Political Research Methodology, as he claims, he would not have made the many simple errors in his writings. Dr. Asquith should know that if he were indeed a Professor in an American academic institution, he would be brought up on charges of academic malfeasance.
In the future, I think Dr. Asquith should be truthful in his comments and Mr. Bisram should be careful in begging for others, as it will undermine his reputation.
