Dear Editor,
I have noted the recent legislation passing through Guyana’s Parliament relating to the “certification” of lawyers by the Commissioner General before the lawyers could be allowed to practice their profession.
I can tell you right off that there will be problems for the PPP with that piece of legislation from me, at least.
Any time I want to appear in any court in Guyana I must be allowed to.
I do not need any piece of paper from Mr. Kurshid Sattaur to tell me that I can practice my profession.
The Council Of legal Education of The Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago has already certified me as a qualified Attorney-at-Law and I have been admitted to practise my profession as a matter of law in these courts of Guyana.
I must be allowed to work and earn my living as a matter of right under the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, and “…and if any other law is inconsistent…” with the laws of the constitution then that other law is, to the extent of its inconsistency’ null and void.
Whenever I want to stand up and represent any person in any court of Guyana, whenever I wish to do so I want any member of the PPP administration to come and prevent me from doing so.
I just want to caution the entire PPP administration about one thing.
The laws of this country that you are so obsessed with changing and distorting are there for the protection of all of its citizens.
There is one set of laws that are already in place which if they are activated will put the entire PPP party and their descendants and supporters clean out of this country.
Just take care of yourselves. You are just visitors to this land.
Remember that.
