The first ever St. Lucia National Amateur Boxing Association (SLABA) Championships will take place in Vieux-Fort at the Philip Marcellin Arena on September 17 and 18 with 25 confirmed entries.
The entrants include the three boxers who will be going to the Commonwealth Games, along with boxers who represented St. Lucia at the 2009 OECS Championships in Martinique and Guadeloupe.
The President of the SLABA Guyanese David ‘Shakes’ Christopher has said that the boxers vying for the National titles will be competing in a Showtime Everlast ring, and all boxers and officials will be accommodated in the town of Vieux-Fort prior to the start of the championships.
Former President of the SLABA Guyanese Joseph ‘Reds’ Pereira in his statement has congratulated the association on their decision to take the championships to the South and feels that a lot of new talent will come out of this important tournament.
He further stated that he hopes that the private sector in South will be supportive and that the people of Vieux-Fort and surrounding areas will attend the event.
