The 2nd Republic Bank/Berbice Cricket Board Inter Zone Under-17 tournament is set to commence on Friday (September 17) at the Cumberland Ground in East Canje, and the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne and will see four teams competing, West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Central/Upper Corentyne.
Sponsored to the value of $300,000, the tournament according to Berbice Cricket Board Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster forms a major part of the Board’s development and talent spotting programme and serves as a bridge between the Under-15 to Under-19 levels.
The Junior Selection Committee under the chairmanship of Leslie Solomon will witness the matches with a view to identify players for the 2011 Inter County Under-19 championship and for a special Junior Elite Coaching Programme.
New Amsterdam/Canje under the captaincy of Linden Austin are slated to clash with the West Berbice led Sherwin Peterkin at the Cumberland Ground.
At the Area ‘H’ Ground national Under-15 captain Shawn Pereira will be at the helm of a strong Lower Corentyne side that will come against Central/Upper Corentyne, captained by Trevor Thomas. Matches start at 09:30hrs and would see teams batting 60 overs in their first innings. The finals would be played over two days.
Teams – Lower Corentyne: Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sachin Dhaniram, Veerapen Permaul, Mahendra Veerasammy, Shailendra Shameer, Shawn Perreira, Loyydel Lewis, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Avinash Wajid, Manoj Looknauth, Jamal Jarvis, Boughnarine Persaud, Arif Chan and Collis Cort.
Central/Upper Corentyne: Rommel Sewnarine, Ruel Leitch, Quacy Burnett, Thameshwar Ramoutar, Akeem Bowling, Kevin Grannum, Seon Persaud, Ikram Khan, Inte Adams, Trevor Thomas, Parmanand Narine, Nazrudeen Bux, Sharaz Ramcharran and Bisham Deolall.
New Amsterdam/Canje: Shimron Hetmyer, Romario De Jonge, Linden Austin, Kevin Ramdeen, Totaram Sooknanan, Kwesi Kendall, Cledwin Cort, Davindra Jainabi, Martin Weatherspoon, Leon Andrews, Nial Smith, Pierre Henry, Suresh Dhanai and Martin Singh.
West Berbice: Sherwin Peterkin, Quacy McPherson, Renison Mitchell, Royden Wade, Grisean Grant, Osbert Cain, Thomas Mc Donald, Derick Lalsa, Marlon De Putron, Kevon Jawahir, Parmanand Ramdhan, Seenauth Motilall, Kurd Griffith and Keron Kelsey.
