In furtherance of its support for sports and community development Digicel seized another opportunity to demonstrate its corporate responsibility during a visit to the Kwakwani area recently.
Business Development Manager Gavin Hope speaking at a ceremony held to highlight Digicel’s involvement in the refurbishment of the Arch in the community and the staging of a basketball tournament said that the occasion marked a significant event in the history of Kwakwani and Digicel and that they were delighted to be a part of the two activities.
“Our support at the grass root and regional levels demonstrate the depth of our commitment towards community development. It’s no secret that basketball teams from this community have kept the Kwakwani flag flying high across Guyana and Digicel will continue to partner in this area,” Hope told the gathering.
He added that the Arch is a landmark in Kwakwani and extended congratulations to the Kwakwani community on the occasion of the achievement, indicating that together they could strive to build and develop the community.
Assistant Regional Executive Officer Devon Bremner in response recognised the efforts made by Digicel in assisting in the community development, especially in the area of sport.
“As you know, Kwakwani have a lot of talented sports personalities and Digicel has been doing a lot for them over the period and everybody is looking forward for the competition to start,” Bremner told this newspaper via telephone.
He said that they were pleased and eagerly looking forward to continued collaboration with the Company and welcomes any new initiative that they have.
Vice-Chairman of the NDC Byron Lewis on behalf on the community extended thanks on behalf of the community to Hope, adding that the support is appreciated by all.
He said that it is the wish of all that the two gestures do not signal the end of their relationship with Digicel, but rather is an indication of a long and fruitful association between the two parties.
The Arch was constructed in 1970 to commemorate Guyana’s attainment of Republic status.
