Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to a letter carried in the Sunday Chronicle (July 18, 2010) by Todd Morgan which carried the heading “Opposition henchmen, or just blinded by hate?” I write this letter off my own volition, and not under any external influence.
In his letter, the writer overtly expressed his view in a rather petulant manner. Such writers have become rather ubiquitous these days. Todd Morgan had called the two independent dailies, the KN and SN ‘anti-government’. Surely, I am opposed to this view. I have been an avid reader of both newspapers for as long as I have known myself. Of course, I do agree that they carry articles criticising the government. But do not they possess the right to do so? The nation wants to see both sides – the good and the bad. They also highlight the good that the Government does. They give credit where it is due.
The Chronicle and The Guyana Times, as Freddie Kissoon once mentioned in one of his daily columns, is ‘miasma’ and ‘pro-government’ respectively. Ironically, the Guyana Times advertises itself as ‘The Beacon of Truth.’ What unadulterated nonsense and blasphemy! Since I possess an insatiable taste for reading, I would normally read all four of the dailies. I get extremely disgusted reading the Chronicle and the Guyana Times. I always get the feeling that something vital is deliberately omitted.
Well, I would have sent my letter to both of the Government influenced newspapers(The Chronicle and The Guyana Times), but I am absolutely sure that they would not have published it.
