GABF hosts national senior tryouts tomorrow
– 35 males, 24 female
players shortlisted

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has named 35 males and 24 females for the national senior basketball team tryouts that will start tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall ahead of the much-anticipated International Series in August.
The practice session for the two squads is expected to start at 9am and conclude at 1pm. Kaieteur Sport understands that the squads were identified from the National Super Ward tournament, the previous performances of players and other competitions.
Speaking briefly with this newspaper yesterday, GABF Vice-President, Floyd Levi informed that the final representative teams will surface following next weekend’s session. He said the final 15 for both male and female teams have to be decided before month end.
As part of a comprehensive two-year developmental plan the national federation will host one of the first International Series to be held in Guyana in the New Millennium. The Washington D.C Jammers will commence the series mid-August after their arrival.
The senior male team will play the Jammers for the ‘Godwin McPherson Trophy’. The Jammers are expected to commence that series on August 14. In addition, male and female South Carolina teams are expected in Guyana around the final week of August.
Coach Larry Davis had brought the female team last year. A New York-based team is scheduled to be a part of the fixture that also proposes to include Antigua, Barbados and perhaps Suriname. These teams will play concurrently with the D.C Jammers.
To complete the list of eight international teams that are anticipated here this summer, President and Coach of Women’s Basketball in Guyana, Michaela Burnett is suppose to introduce a female team from Washington to have a triangular women’s series.
Following is the respective male and female names that were identified for the national teams.
Males (Georgetown): Ryan Stephney, Darcel Harris, Travis Burnett, Shelroy Thomas, Stephon Gillis, Naylon Loncke, Tyrone Hamid, Rodwell Fortune, Dwayne Roberts, Haslyn Hooper, Rudy James, Ryan Gullen, Nicko Fraser, Vivian Alder, Drumson McCulley and Royston Siland.
Males (Linden): Steve Neils jr., Marvin Hartman, Jason Alonzo, Kevin Joseph, Akeem Khanai, Shane Webster, Trevor Profitt, Quincy Jones, Mark Louis, Dwight Cooper, Nkossi Gurrick, Orin Rose, Louis James, Chris Williams, Anson Durant and Neil Marks.
Males (New Amsterdam): Theopholous Best, Randy Richardson and Carlos Crandon.
Females (Georgetown): Tamike Joseph, Sheneeza Atwell, Natasha Alder, Amera Alphonso, La Quantalisa Gibson, Laurel Anderson, Kean Andrews, Natasha Andrews, Owandie Small, Telisha Samuels, Tamara Hunter, Nathalia Primo, Rhonda Charles and Ginelle Ifill.
Females (Linden): Sonia Rodney, Latoya Rodney, Nicola Jacobs, Maurice Skeete, Stacy Hoyte, Althea Byass. (Kwakwani): Shaquilla Sampson. (New Amsterdam): Michelle Sabrattie, Dinelle Joseph and Shenarie (no surname given).
