The Ministry of Agriculture via the New Guyana Marketing Corporation will partner with Guyana Fashion Weekend today for an event which promises to showcase Guyana’s talent in the culinary arts, utilizing local fresh fruits and vegetables.
According to Managing Director of Guyana Fashion Weekend, Sonia Noel, she is very excited that the Ministry of Agriculture has been supporting such a venture.
She explained that cutting styles which is a fusion of the culinary arts and designer fashion was actually coined out of her support for the Grow More Food campaign launched by the Ministry a few years ago.
Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud in an invited comment stated that “as the Ministry of Agriculture presses ahead with its diversification strategy, it will continue to support events such as Cutting Styles”. “Using our fresh produce and products is an investment into the future. The merger of food into the fashion industry brings a whole new and exciting approach to how we promote our fruits and vegetables”.
The Ministry has been encouraging persons to consume foods made from local produce.
At today’s event scheduled to start at 20:00h at the Duke Lodge in Kingston, Georgetown, the creativity of the fusion of the culinary arts and fashion will be featured.
Cutting Styles promises to be an evening of unbelievable talent. A designer will be paired with a chef and all the themes chosen will be from a fruit or vegetable grown in Guyana; this is in an effort to endorse the Grow More Food campaign.
