The second post mortem examination and further testing on the remains of Sangeeta Persaud has revealed that she died of natural causes.
Foreign Pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov, told this newspaper yesterday that he received the test result from his lab and the tests all proved positive for meningitis.
He added that the same information was passed onto the Home Affairs Minister on Thursday last.
It is expected that with the results, all speculation about a botched exorcism will be put to rest. On April 25, last, foreign pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov, a specialist in forensic and anatomic pathology, was contracted by the government to conduct a second post mortem, this time on the exhumed remains of Sangeeta Persaud, a West Bank Demerara teen.
The Trinidad-based pathologist collected samples from various parts of Persaud’s body in an effort to put all speculations to rest. There was some confusion about the cause of death.
Initially, the view was that the child died of complications linked to a botched exorcism.
Foreign Pathologist, Dr Valery Alexandrov, told this newspaper that there was no sign of blunt trauma, hemorrhaging or broken bones. He explained during his examination that he checked the muscle tissues for a greenish discoloration which is consistent with poisoning. However, none was found.
The doctor had also explained that he had a discussion with Dr. Nehaul Singh and based on the child’s medical records, Dr. Singh’s findings were supported— the child died from meningitis.
