Greaves tops field in feature 35 lap school boys & invitational race

Alonzo Greaves maintained his dominance on the cycling track yesterday when he comfortably won the feature school boys & invitational 35-lap contest at the 10th Annual P&P Insurance Brokers & Consultants 11-race Meet held at the National Park.
Greaves yet again out sprinted Robin Persaud on the final straight to win the race in 1 hour 21 minutes 14.50 seconds; Warren Mc Kay in a last minute dash to catch the front runners had to settle for the 3rd place.
Enzo Matthews placed 4th, Berbician Turhan Harris 5th and Physically Challenged Walter Grant Stuart out hustled Paul De Nobrega to take the 6th and final spot. Persaud and Mc Kay shared 6 of the 8 sprint prizes equally with the other two going to Greaves.
The race which saw 18 starters saw Persaud and Greaves pulling away from the pack on lap 20 establishing a lead that was never challenged.
De Nobrega was the top racer in the juvenile clash crossing the line ahead of Daniel Major and Raynauth Chaitram, De Nobrega and Major sharing one prime each.
Clyde Jacobs won the upright race along with the lone sprint prize; Kwesi Headley copped 2nd and Kinta McKenzie 3rd.
The top under-50 veteran was Davendra Ramnarine (1 prime) who upstaged seasoned campaigners Kennard Lovell and Virgil Jones in that order. Taking the top podium spot in the over-50 category was Linden’s Kirkwood Kellman; Robert Beaton and Courtney Thomas coming in 2nd and 3rd.

Distributing the prizes on behalf of P&P Insurance Brokers & Consultants was daughter of CEO Bishwa Panday, Varsha Panday who said they were very happy to maintain their support of the sport with the 10th annual event.
“We believe it underlines our commitment to sports in Guyana. As you are aware we are a ready and generous contributor to many sporting disciplines of which cycling is only one.”
Panday congratulated all the participants and made special mention of the young competitors while commending their parents. Organiser, National Coach Hassan Mohamed also came in for special mention.
